Creating a widget for Benefits Open Enrollment that feels engaging and intuitive
UKG — the largest SaaS Human Resources provider in the world — purchased a company called EverythingBenefits, which helps employers manage benefits open enrollment for their organizations. I oversaw the content strategy and new design for the project, in coordination with a UX Designer and a UX Research team.
The goal was to make the open enrollment experience less taxing and cumbersome, not only for employees, who equated the process to doing taxes, but also for the HR teams managing the process on the backend.
To seamlessly bring the EverythingBenefits enrollment platform into the UKG dashboard, the idea was to add a widget that would make it easy for the user to complete their open enrollment, uploading all of the necessary documentation and making the correct selections for themselves and their dependents, by the deadline. The goal was to make the widget responsive and intuitive so that the user could easily see what remaining documents are needed, and ensure the user feels that the system knows the user and the user’s family based upon prior selections made in the previous year. All of this while also rewriting the copy to feel more conversational, very human and less complex.
